The hero does not slay the dragon (yet another of their inverted tales). The hero is the dragon, awakened.
Most will not understand the depths of meaning here, but a few will. There's a lot implied by those lines, more than mere poetic symbolism.
I like to imagine enlightenment not as calm, but as a ray: a power within us that overflows, endlessly illuminating itself.
